The MCR organises several social and academic events throughout the Academic Year.
The first of these is traditionally the Principal’s Drinks Reception for Graduates in early Michaelmas, which is a good opportunity to get to know other graduate students and one’s College Advisor.
The annual SCR–MCR Symposium takes place in Hilary Term. It features speakers from both the College’s SCR and the MCR and provides graduate students with an opportunity to present their research or work-in-progress in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
Two further academic events take place every Trinity Term: the Supervisors’ Dinner is a chance for graduate students to invite their supervisors and to network within the academic community. The Graduate Research Day is another occasion for presenting one’s research.
The Graduate Research Day is held in collaboration with Homerton College, Cambridge.
The MCR’s Social Secretary usually organises one Guest Night per term. These offer graduate students a chance to invite partners, friends, family or colleagues and show HMC at its best.
In Trinity Term, the MCR organises the regular College Balls in conjunction with the JCR.
Regular exchange dinners with other MCRs (usually two per term) provide ample opportunities to meet graduate students from across the University.
