My name is Susannah Reide and I am delighted to be the chaplain at Harris Manchester College.
I would like to see the chapel used as a place of prayer by all comers to our college.
I trained as an Anglican priest and was ordained in Salisbury Cathedral in 2004. I am interested in exploring different forms of prayer, and am currently very drawn to the Dances of Universal Peace. These are a form of prayer where you sing together a sacred chant from one of the world’s religions, together with simple dance steps in a circle.
For the last 10 years my family have lived in East Oxford and I have most recently worked as an Associate Priest with the Cowley St John team (the church in a large graveyard by the Manzil Way mosque on the Cowley Road). In the last couple of years I was drawn to sing in the choir at Harris Manchester College with Myles Hartley, and this began my link with the college which has led to my appointment. Our children attend local schools in East Oxford, and I hope to be a link person who helps to connect “Town” and “Gown”.
I am very interested in pilgrimage and travel and am keen to go on tour with the choir and on pilgrimage with anyone who feels drawn to this! We will begin Michaelmas Term with a mini pilgrimage to Christ Church Cathedral, for the annual service of St Frideswide, the patron saint of Oxford.
Oxford is an exciting place with an almost insane level of activity and opportunity. If you would like time to talk and reflect, and a friendly listening ear, then please do contact me. I am also very happy to help people who want to explore the Christian faith.
