Portrait of suffragist unveiled by Bishop of Ripon

On 30th May 2018, HMC honorary fellow and former Junior Research Fellow, the Rt Rev Dr Helen-Ann Hartley, bishop of Ripon, the first Church of England woman to become a bishop, unveiled a contemporary photographic portrait of the first woman to train for the ministry in England, Gertrude von Petzold (1876-1952). Gertrude received her training at Manchester College, Oxford in the early 20th century, so it’s particularly fitting that one pioneering woman was honoured by another.
