Shaun Johnson, 1960-2020

It is with much sadness that the Principal and Fellows of Harris Manchester College have learnt of the death of Shaun Johnson.

Shaun and Stefania Johnson were visiting fellows last term; and both quickly became much-loved members of our community, engaging in college life with great enthusiasm and becoming wonderful ambassadors for our college wherever they went. Shaun’s energy, courage and great spirit brought so much to our college. He was a thoroughly engaging member of our Senior Common Room, and those of us who teach and work here enjoyed many fascinating conversations with him over meals in the dining hall. The students were in awe of the stories of his life and all he had seen and done, and deeply admiring of his important work for the education of the young people of Africa. We are honoured to have known him, and to have had him as a part of our community even for that short while.

We were hugely looking forward to welcoming him and Stefania back next term, and will miss him very much.

Stefania and Luna are very much in our hearts as they grieve the sudden and shocking loss of their beloved husband and father.
