Professor David R Matthews

Professor David Matthews is Vice-Principal, a Medical Tutor at Harris Manchester College, and Professor of Diabetic Medicine, University of Oxford.

Qualifications:

MA (Oxon), DPhil, BM, BCh, FRCP.

Subjects:

Clinical Medicine / Diabetes.

Research Interests:

Deputy co-ordinator and member of the Executive and Policy Advisory Committees of the UK Prospective Study of Diabetes (UKPDS).
Founder member of the Oxford Health Alliance – multiple stakeholder collaborations to address and prevent chronic illness
(www.oxha.org).
Type 2 diabetes: including mathematical modelling of insulin resistance and the analysis of pulsatile insulin (and other hormones, especially Growth Hormone) using time-series analysis.
Co-director of National Diabetes Research Network (URDRN) – managed jointly Imperial College and Oxford University.
HOMA model of beta-cell function and insulin resistance.

Co-ordinator of the Robert Turner EASD Clinical Reseach Course.
Co-ordinator of the Oxford Steno Advanced Diabetes Course.
