A charity housed within the Wellbeing Research Centre – the Harris Manchester-based centre directed by Vice-Principal and Fellow and Tutor in Management Professor Jan-Emmanuel De Neve – has released a major new report.
The 2025 UK Wellbeing Report is produced by the World Wellbeing Movement, which brings together academics, business leaders and policy makers to translate research into real-world impacts on wellbeing.
Its report, published on 18 June, presents several headline findings. They include the estimation that nearly 7 million people in the UK are now living below the “Happiness Poverty Line”, and that happiness in the UK continues to remain below pre-pandemic levels – a situation that continues to worsen.
Sarah Cunningham, Managing Director of the World Wellbeing Movement, said: “These concerning findings are a sign that too many people are struggling in their day-to-day lives. The reality of these figures, and the human faces and stories they represent, should act as a wake-up call. If we are serious about improving lives and reducing inequality, we need to put wellbeing at the heart of decision-making in public policy.”
