College Fellows to feature prominently at Oxford Literary Festival

Harris Manchester College Fellows are once again set to play a significant role in this year’s Oxford Literary Festival. There are four events featuring Fellows from the College at the Festival, which takes place across various venues in the city from 21 March to 29 March.

On 21 March at 4pm, Professor Kate McLoughlin, Harris Manchester's Tutor in English, will be at the University's Mathematical Institute. In "Silence: a literary history" Kate will be looking back over 12 centuries of English literature to uncover the power and possibilities of silence.

Meanwhile on 23 March, also at 4pm, alumna and Research Fellow Dr Fiona Sampson will be at Pusey House. "Becoming George: The Invention of George Sand" will see Fiona reassess the life and work of 19th century French novelist George Sand, who "scandalised Paris and seemed to break every rule for women in polite society".

The next day, on 24 March, also at Pusey House, but at the earlier time of 2pm, our former Principal (and now Honorary Fellow) Professor Jane Shaw will be chairing "Ignoring Christianity at Our Peril: How Christian Faith Can Save the West"

Finally, Jane will also be in conversation on 25 March with Senior Research Fellow Michael Symmons Roberts for a discussion on "Music, Grief and Birdsong".

Tickets and more information are available on the Oxford Literary Festival website.
