Harris Manchester College has published details of its Hilary term programme of events, one of the busiest in recent years. Nine public-facing events feature alongside the College’s regular Wednesday-evening Chapel services, which are also open to the public.
This term’s events include a new regular series of discussions with public figures. Hosted by Harris Manchester’s Principal, Professor Beth Breeze, In Conversation with... kicks off on Monday 2 February with Dr Janina Ramirez, a historian, best-selling writer and documentary-maker, as well as a Research Fellow at the College. She will be talking to Professor Breeze about her career searching for overlooked, ignored or misrepresented voices from the past, with stories from the world of factual filming and travelling to historic sites across the globe. Captain Jon Browett of the Royal Navy, academic and author Professor Bev Clack and businessman Brian Fidler are the other guests this term.
Returning to its regular slot, the College’s weekly Chapel services will be taking place every Wednesday evening from 21 January. Entitled Singing the Journey, this term’s services take as their theme the part that music plays in the life of the Chapel, and the transition from the new year into spring.
Other events taking place over the course of the term include the 2026 Manchester Lecture, delivered by Professor William Whyte on the Worthington family of architects, a musical recital by pupils from Harris Academy Westminster, and the traditional end-of-term concert by the College’s staff and students.
The backdrop to events this term is Harris Manchester’s main public space – the recently renovated arts and crafts Chapel, which won a prestigious Oxford Preservation Trust award last year, will play host to all 15 events.
