Honorary Fellow receives prestigious award for contribution to medicine

Professor Rajesh Thakker, an Honorary Fellow at Harris Manchester College and the University of Oxford’s May Professor of Medicine, has received the Association for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR)’s William F Neuman Award.

One of the Society’s Esteemed Awards to be presented in Boston in October, the recognition is the highest the Society can confer. It is awarded to individuals who have made major scientific contributions in the area of bone and mineral research, as well as advancing teaching, research and administration.

Professor Thakker specialises in researching the molecular basis of disorders of calcium homeostasis. He has published more than 350 articles in the course of his career and been the recipient of multiple other awards.

He commented: “I am delighted to receive this honour in recognition of my wonderful team of clinical and scientific researchers and global collaborators, whose dedicated work has made the discoveries and facilitated translation of scientific advances into benefits for patients. I am indebted to all of them.”
