Professor Dame Linda Colley inducted as Honorary Fellow
The Principal and Fellows were delighted to induct Professor Dame Linda Colley as an Honorary Fellow of Harris Manchester College last night. Professor Colley is a renowned scholar specialising in British, imperial, and global history spanning from 1700 onwards. She is currently the Shelby M. C. Davis 1958 Professor of History at Princeton University, having held chairs at Yale University and the London School of Economics prior to that.
Professor Colley has published seven critically acclaimed books, which have been widely influential in the field, the most recent The Gun, the Ship and the Pen: Warfare, Constitutions and the Making of the Modern World (2021). Her third book, Britons: Forging the Nation 1707-1837 (1992), was awarded the Wolfson History Prize and has gone into five editions.
Professor Colley received an honorary doctorate from the University of Oxford in 2020 and was appointed DBE in the 2022 honours list for services to history.
