The Principal and Fellows of Harris Manchester are very sorry to announce the death on January 15th of Robert Conway (always known as Bob), a Foundation Fellow and the College’s President – an honorary role dating from the college’s earlier history, which was revived when Bob took up the post in 2001.

Bob was a prominent figure in the international banking sector and was a Managing Partner of Goldman Sachs in the UK. He loved ballet and was a generous supporter of the arts - especially dance. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, he was a person of deep faith.

A longstanding supporter of Harris Manchester’s development, Bob was, with his wife Ricki, a significant benefactor to HMC in many ways. In particular, he supported the renovation of one of our Holywell houses as student accommodation (now named Conway) and sponsored our annual Garden Party.  As a result of his generosity to the college, he was inducted as a member of the Chancellor’s Court of Benefactors.

Bob was much loved in college, and he will be much missed.

The College Fellows and staff extend their condolences to Ricki, and all Bob’s family and friends.
