2026 Upton Lecture

For the Upton Lecture 2026 Dr Marc Schulz will present findings from the Harvard Study of Adult Development.

Using life stories and research findings, Dr Schulz will share why the Harvard Study (and other studies) point to relationships as a key foundation of the “good life”.

Dr Marc Schulz is the co-author of the New York Times Bestseller, The Good Life: Lessons from the World’s Longest Scientific Study of Happiness, and is the Associate Director of the Harvard Study of Adult Development, an 88-year-old longitudinal study of human flourishing in two generations of individuals from over 700 families. He is also Chair in Psychology at Bryn Mawr College and directs its Data Science Program. Dr Schulz currently a Visiting Fellow at the Wellbeing Research Centre at Harris Manchester College.

The Upton Lecture is named after Charles Barnes Upton, Professor of Philosophy at the College between 1875-1903. The lecture is held annually and alternates between philosophical and religious themes. This year’s lecture, which is free and open to all, has been made possible by the generous support of The Sekyra Foundation.
