Financial Condition Guidance

Most of you will have been set a financial condition by the College. Some of you will have been set a financial condition by your Department. This section is intended for those whose financial condition has been set by the College. The deadline to provide your documents is usually 30 June. If your offer is made close to or after 30 June, you will be given an individual deadline.

What you need to provide

You will need to provide different sorts of evidence depending on how you will be funding your studies. In all cases, you will need to show evidence of enough funding to cover the first year course fees, but you don't have to show evidence of funding for living expenses or course fees beyond the first year. You can use a combination of funding sources (e.g. if you have a partial scholarship and you will be using your own savings to cover the rest).

If you are unsure about what you need to provide, please let us know and we'll be happy to advise.

Funding from own savings

If you will be using your own funding to pay your fees, the evidence you will need to provide is:

  • Evidence that you have sufficient funding to cover the first year of course fees. This will usually be:
    • A bank statement
    • OR
    • A letter from your bank, accountant or financial planner
  • Evidence as to where the money came from.
    • This is so we can comply with money laundering regulations.
    • Suitable evidence varies, but is usually a recent payslip or letter from your employer if the funding is from your salary
    • If your savings are from another source, please let us know and we will advise what evidence will be required.

Funding from family or friends

If you are being funded by a family member or friend, the evidence you will need to provide is:

  • Evidence that your family member or friend is willing to support you and is aware of the cost entailed. This will need to be a signed letter which lists:
    • That they are willing to support you financially
    • How much funding they are willing to provide
    • How they are related to you
  • Evidence that they have sufficient funding to cover the first year of your course fees. This will usually be:
    • A bank statement
    • OR
    • A letter from their bank, accountant or financial planner
  • Evidence as to where the money came from.
    • This is so we can comply with money laundering regulations.
    • Suitable evidence varies, but is usually a recent payslip or letter from their employer if the funding is from their salary
    • If their savings are from another source, please let us know and we will advise what evidence will be required.

Funding from a loan or other sponsor

If you are being funded by a loan or another sponsor (e.g. an employer), you will need to provide

  • A letter from your sponsor confirming the amount being provided (e.g. your funding award letter)

 Scholarships and Funding

Harris Manchester doesn’t have additional scholarships or bursaries to offer to cover your fees.  If you haven’t already, you may wish to review the University's Fees, Funding and Scholarship search to see if there is any funding for which you might be eligible.

Accommodation

Harris Manchester runs a ballot to allocate graduate accommodation. To be eligible to enter the ballot, you must hold an offer for a full-time course and be starting in October.

We have limited accommodation so we can't guarantee that you will be given a room. We strongly advise that while you are waiting for the outcome of the ballot, you explore other options in case you aren't successful in securing a room in College.

Entering the ballot

The deadline to enter the ballot is strictly 30 June. The ballot will be drawn shortly after the deadline and we will let you know as soon as we are able as to whether we will be able to offer you a room.

Finding accommodation elsewhere

The University has guidance about rooms at other Colleges, rooms in University accommodation, and about finding accommodation in the private market.

Read the University's Guidance here

If you aren't successful in securing a room in College, you will still have access to all the other College facilities such as our Library (which is open 24 hours a day), the Dining Hall, the Chapel, and other social spaces.

Academic Condition Guidance

Your academic condition will have been set by your department when they made you an offer of study. The details will be in your offer letter and you should liaise with your department if you have any queries about these conditions.

If you will need a student visa to study, this will be issued by your department once you have met your academic condition and your financial condition.

Disabilities

Both the College and the University are committed to making reasonable adjustments if you have a disability.

We recommend that you register with the University's Disability Advisory Service (DAS) as soon as you are able. The sooner you register, the better able we will be to support you as we will have more notice to put any appropriate measures in place.

To find out more, or to register with DAS, you should refer to the University's guidance. If you have any questions about registering with DAS or about support in general, you can also contact our Disability Officer, Vicky Lill.
