Applicant Feedback

Thank you for your application to Harris Manchester College.

Competition for places at Oxford is always very strong. Most candidates who apply make good applications, demonstrate real enthusiasm for the subject and are predicted excellent grades. Tutors have to make difficult decisions in terms of shortlisting and offering places, and every year we have to turn away a large number of very able candidates.

This page details what feedback you can ask for regarding your application, what feedback is provided automatically, and which feedback we are unable to provide. You may also wish to visit your department's website as they sometimes provide details on how admissions decisions are made.

Harris Manchester College does not retain or provide qualitative feedback to any candidates.
We are also unable to provide feedback to successful applicants.

Course specific admissions criteria

It is worth visiting your course's website as they sometimes detail the criteria on which decisions are made. However, this is not a requirement so this information isn't always available. As and when we are provided with any information, we will add it below.

Admissions Test Scores

Please see below for information on how your test scores will be communicated to you. When comparing your scores to an average score (where provided), it is important to remember that tutors consider an applicant's entire application when deciding whether to shortlist them for interview or offer them a place.

Harris Manchester cannot provide any additional scores or details to those listed below. We do not receive qualitative feedback as to how your score was decided.

Scores for the UCAT, and the LNAT, are made available to candidates directly by the relevant test providers.

Scores for the following tests will be sent to all applicants automatically:

  • CAT, for all Classics and joint school applicants. Scores are provided for each section taken.
  • HAT, for all History and joint school applicants. An overall score is provided.
  • PAT Engineering, for all Engineering applicants. An overall score is provided.
  • PhilAT, for all Philosophy & Theology applicant. An overall score is provided.
  • TSA Section 1, for all TSA applicants (whether Section 2 was taken or not). Scores for Problem Solving, Critical Thinking, and the Overall Score are provided.

Further to the individual test scores, you will also be provided with summary statistics for your test, or a link to departmental webpages containing those summary statistics.

Written Work Scores

Please note that written work refers to essays that are specifically requested as part of the application process, not your UCAS application. Not all courses are asked to submit written work.

If you provided written work as part of your application, we can provide your score if it is available. In some cases, written work is not given a specific score and is considered holistically.

If you would like us to check whether we have a score available for your written work, please complete the below form by the deadline of 17:00 UK time on 15 February.

Requests for scores submitted after this date, and requests from successful applicants will be disregarded.

We do not retain qualitative feedback about your written work, so we are unable to provide this.

It is not possible to provide this as we don't retain or have access to this information. We only have access to the following:

  • Your admissions test scores
  • Any provided written work scores
    • Not all subjects provide scores for written work as some consider it holistically as part of your application
  • Your interview scores

We will provide your score as soon as we are able, but times will vary depending on other factors. All score requests will be responded to if submitted by the deadline.

Tutors take your entire application into account when making their decisions. A high score in a test or interview may have been let down by a weaker performance in another part of your application (e.g. your UCAS statement or written work).

It is not possible for your work to be remarked.

We welcome reapplications from unsucessful candidates. Any new application would be considered without reference to your previous application.
