Henry, PGDip Theology and Religion

A young man in a suit against an indistinct background

I was struck by how there isn't any divide between undergraduates and postgraduates, as well as how friendly the Fellows and staff are at Harris Manchester.

Before Harris Manchester and Oxford, I was a management consultant specializing in energy at McKinsey & Company, based in Houston. I initially came to the University of Oxford in 2024 for the MBA program and was placed in Linacre College. As a devout Christian who thoroughly enjoyed my time at Oxford, I had a strong desire to stay another year and study my faith, leading me to apply for the PGDip in Theology & Religion. Within the program, I’ve chosen to specialize in the field of science and religion, focusing on the intersection of Christianity and economics. My current research combines my faith and business background and is centered on constructing a tangible Christian economy. I have found this opportunity deeply fulfilling as I explore ways to live out my faith in practice.

There were many reasons why I applied to HMC! I immediately fell in love with the College after several of my MBA friends from the College took me to a formal and on a tour. First and foremost, as one of the only MBA students staying in Oxford and being several thousand miles away from my home in Texas, I was really looking for a welcoming and friendly community. I can now safely say that our community is incredible, and I have already been able to form strong friendships with many of my peers. Furthermore, our campus is stunning and filled with rich history, and we have delicious food. I might be just a “little” biased, but we have one of the best Colleges in Oxford, which I like to call our special little slice of paradise, that I am very grateful to be a part of.

When I arrived at HMC officially, I was honestly just so excited! I fortunately received on-campus housing, which, funnily enough, the building my room is in is about 100 years older than the United States! I was also struck by how there isn’t any divide between undergraduates and postgraduates, as well as how friendly the Fellows and staff are at HMC. It’s truly a place with a wonderful, supportive, and caring community that grows together throughout each of our Oxford journeys. I have found my home abroad!
