Alumnus joins Principal on podcast about mature students at Oxford

Harris Manchester Principal, Professor Beth Breeze, and a college alumnus, Harry Evans (BA PPE, pictured above) feature as guests on a podcast that has just been released.

The Harris in Conversation podcast features guests from the world of education and is hosted by Emily Clarke. In the latest episode, the discussion focused on Harry’s experience of applying to the University of Oxford as a mature student, his time at Harris Manchester and the benefits of studying later in life.

During the podcast, Harry gave an insight into the advantages of life in a mature student-only college: “Obviously we’ve all got pre-conceptions of what Oxford’s like, and a lot of them are correct. It’s very hard, there’s a lot of work to do, but you get a huge amount of respect when you come here, from fellow students, staff and tutors – from everyone. The atmosphere is like a big kind of family, and there’s a general level of equality amongst everyone, which I guess is natural when you get students who are a bit older because everyone has their own life experiences and stories to tell.”

Harris in Conversation is produced by the Harris Federation, which was established by our naming benefactor Lord Harris and now runs 55 schools in some of the most deprived areas of London.
