As Domestic Bursar, Birgitte's role is broadly equivalent to that of a Chief Operating Officer in a business. She has overall responsibility for the college’s operational functions, overseeing the Housekeeping, Bursary, Dining Hall, Kitchen, and Conference teams. She manages five Heads of Department, with responsibility for approximately 30 staff members.
Prior to joining Harris Manchester, she worked for seven years at St Anthony's College as Conference and Accommodation Sales Office Manager, with responsibility for 12 meeting and event spaces, including two large lecture theatres, two private dining rooms, a 300-cover dining hall, and a room inventory of over 253 rooms and apartments. Earlier in her career, and after a degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Oxford Brookes University, she worked in her native Denmark, spending over 10 years as a Hotel Revenue Manager for four-star hotels in Copenhagen and Odense. She also has experience in the airline industry, working both in Copenhagen Airport and directly with airlines such as Air France, KLM and British Airways.
