Dr Bethany Sollereder

Associate Professor in Science and Religion 

Bethany Sollereder is an Associate Professor in Science and Religion at the University of Oxford and the Wills Theology Tutor at Harris Manchester College.

She specialises in theology, evolution and the problem of suffering. She is currently working on theological aspects of climate change, particularly theological work around if we cannot stop climate change.

Prior to joining HMC, Bethany was Lecturer in Science and Religion at the University of Edinburgh for three years. Prior to that, she held several positions in Oxford, including a post-doc with the Theology and Religion faculty and another at the Laudato Si’ Research Institute based in Campion Hall.

Bethany received her PhD in Theology from the University of Exeter. She is the author of God, Evolution, and Animal Suffering: Theodicy without a Fall (Routledge 2019) and Why is there Suffering? Pick your own theological expedition (Zondervan 2021) and co-editor of the volumes Emerging Voices in Science and Theology: Contributions by Young Women (2022) and Progress in Theology: Does the Queen of the Sciences Advance? (2025) Her work is regularly featured on podcasts, radio, and popular magazines such as The Christian Century and Christianity Today.
