Principal's Welcome

From the Principal

Trinity Term is in full swing here at Harris Manchester College. Even though our college buildings and gardens are quiet, our community activities continue in dispersed rather than gathered mode. Our online life is buzzing with teaching and administration, chapel services and meetings, virtual coffee and study sessions. Our students, staff and tutors have risen to the challenges presented by our current global circumstances with enormous resilience, creativity and good grace, as tutorials accommodate many time zones and reading lists make the most of virtual resources.

Finals have begun and we offer our very best wishes to all those taking exams, and thank them for the good-spirited way in which they have adapted to the task of taking finals online. We are proud of our medics and other colleagues who are doing extraordinary work in tackling Covid-19, and you can read about that here and here.

We miss welcoming prospective students and all our friends to college in person, but we look forward to seeing you when communal activities become possible again. In the meantime, we are preparing to go live with our first ever Virtual Open Day content which will be implemented in the coming weeks.

We also invite you to view the exhibition by the renowned French ceramicist and kiln builder Claude Aussage, and one of his students Manon Vallé, that we were to have hosted during Artweek this term; this is now available online.

With very best wishes to you all – and stay safe and healthy.

Jane Shaw.
