Harris Manchester is amazing because it's full of students who have such different and varied previous experiences
Hi, I'm Anna, I'm a third year student reading Philosophy, Politics and Economics. Before coming to Oxford I did a degree in Economics, and after two years of work experience in finance I decided to study a second undergraduate degree in PPE here. It has such a vast range of options that it is really easy to tailor it to your own interests, and I very much enjoy being able to study such disparate subjects such as ethics and European legislatures within the same degree. I feel like I've grown a lot academically, especially through the tutorial system, not only learning from my tutors that are experts in their field but also from my tutorial partners because everyone really comes in with such different perspectives and brings different ideas to the discussion, so it's been very interesting.
Also, besides the weekly lectures and tutorials that we have, there are also so many talks organised by the Departments by student-run groups so it's very easy to delve deeper and branch out or just find out about current research. I think the biggest problem really is just finding the time to attend everything that you'd like to! Harris Manchester is amazing because it's full of students who have such different and varied previous experiences. I've really enjoyed the friendliness of the college and the openness of all the students, the tutors and generally the college members. Almost everyone knows each other, takes care of each other and looks out for each other, so it really does feel like one big family. Also, the social life at College is very vibrant – every year new students come in and they have new ideas about the kind of societies and clubs and events that they'd like to organise so there's a lot of change even in what might seem like a backdrop of strong traditions and continuity. I'm very glad that I decided to come back to University and Harris Manchester and Oxford have been amazing!
