It is with great sadness that the Principal and Fellows of Harris Manchester announce the death on May 5th of Honorary Fellow Dr John Henry Felix, who served as Chair of the Board of Regents for many years and was a longstanding supporter of the College.

After serving in the Korean War in the 1950s, Dr Felix went on to build a notable career in his native Hawaii in politics, business and philanthropy. His many achievements included acting as Chief of Staff to Hawaii’s first Governor, serving on the Board of Governors of the American National Red Cross, and becoming Chair of the Hawaii Medical Assurance Association.

Dr Felix was a generous benefactor to Harris Manchester College over the years, and made gifts towards the renovation of student housing and the Tseu Medical Institute. More recently, he funded the John Henry Felix Tutorial Fellowship in Medicine. His generosity to the college was marked by his admission to the Chancellor’s Court of benefactors.

Our Principal, Professor Jane Shaw, commented: “John Henry Felix was a very good friend to Harris Manchester College in so many ways, and we are so grateful for his generosity and all that he did – he will be much missed. The College extends its condolences to his family.”
