This week, Harris Manchester celebrated its Head Porter, John Carter, who has dedicated over 25 years of service to the college. John has seen many generations of students through the doors of HMC and has always been a friendly face to those he greets. In honour of this milestone, the College dedicated a formal dinner to mark the occasion; giving the community an opportunity to thank both John and his family.
John had these words to share, “Thank you, this means the world to me. This College is my world and it means more to me than I could ever say”, which was met by a standing ovation.
The Principal, Professor Jane Shaw, shared her thoughts on John’s achievement, noting that “John is very special because he is kind, he is thoughtful, he is always ready to help, and he always comes to our aid. John is beloved, not just by this generation of students, staff and Fellows, but by multiple generations over 25 years.”
