Harris Manchester College conducted an official presentation ceremony on 8 October to mark two new members joining the College and its Governing Body. Principal Beth Breeze and Official Fellow Dr Bethany Sollereder were inducted in front of other members of the Governing Body, staff and students in the Chapel. As part of the ceremony, Principal Breeze and Dr Sollereder made a brief declaration in front of attendees in which they promised to promote the College’s aims and objectives and uphold its Charter, Statutes and Byelaws.

Their declarations followed a statement from HMC’s Vice-Principal Professor Jan-Emmanuel De Neve in which he situated the two appointments in the context of the history of the College: “We are mindful of the long tradition of this College and of the University of Oxford in encouraging the spirit of free enquiry, of scientific rigour, of fostering the arts, and the furtherance of education, for the benefit of all humankind. We are mindful also of this College’s traditional dedication to Truth, to Liberty, and to Religion.”

The ceremony came to a close with a benediction from HMC’s Chaplain, the Reverend Dr Claire MacDonald.
