Professor Roger Smith and Maralynn Smith

The College reports with sadness the death late last week of Professor Roger Smith and his wife Maralynn Smith.

Professor Smith was Emeritus Fellow in Law at Magdalen College, where he looked after many generations of law students. In recent years, Professor Smith generously took on Land Law teaching for Harris Manchester College, looking after our second year students and finalists.

Professor van Zwieten writes “We are enormously grateful that Professor Smith became part of the HMC law community on his retirement from Magdalen. We were very fortunate to benefit from Roger's rich expertise as a scholar in land and property law, and his life-long commitment to undergraduate teaching. I send my sincere condolences to the law fellowship at Magdalen and to all those who loved Roger and Maralynn”.
