The Principal and Fellows of Harris Manchester are sorry to hear of the death on 24 February of Professor Sir Tony Wrigley. Sir Tony served as President of the College (1987-1996), an honorary position established when we were Manchester College, and as the founding Visitor (1996-1999) of the College once we became HMC.
A highly distinguished demographic historian who served as President of the British Academy and Master of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, Sir Tony also played a crucial role in Harris Manchester’s incorporation as a College of the University of Oxford. His contribution is commemorated in the name of our Wrigley student accommodation building.
The College extends its condolences to Sir Tony’s family and friends.
