EarThe Royal Historical Society, which was founded in 1868, awards fellowships to individuals who have made an original contribution to historical scholarship through the authorship of a book or other activities. As well as academics, fellows include curators, librarians, heritage specialists, independent researchers and writers.

Professor McLoughlin’s most recent work, Silence: A Literary History, surveys how silence has been presented in English literature across the centuries, from Anglo-Saxon poetry to contemporary works.

Later this month, Bodleian Library Publishing published Silence Please: A Poem for Every Kind of Quiet, an anthology edited by Professor McLoughlin featuring 100 poems by a range of authors whose works evoke different forms of silences. The release of the book will be preceded by an introductory event at the Weston Library in Oxford on 15 October.

Her previous works include Authoring War: The Literary Representation of War from the Iliad to Iraq (2011) and Veteran Poetics: British Literature in the Age of Mass Warfare, 1790–2015 (2018).
