Philosophy, Politics, and Economics

Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE)

Students admitted: c. 8 per year

The Course

Harris Manchester accepts around eight students reading PPE per year, which makes it one of the College’s largest subjects.  Added to this are students reading for Economics and Management, History and Politics, and other Philosophy Joint-Schools students, which produces a large and supportive cohort for these subjects.  The course attracts students from all over the world, which gives added interest to politics and economics tutorials, in particular, and adds to the experience of studying PPE at Harris Manchester.

Students are supported by Professor Bill Mander (Philosophy), Dr Isabel Ruiz (Economics) and Professor Lesley Smith (Politics), with input from three other fellows, Dr Sophie Allen, Dr Donna Harris, and Dr Ria Ivandic. College library provision for PPE is excellent, and we are only five minutes away from the University’s Social Sciences Library on Manor Road.

Why Harris Manchester?

Harris Manchester College has long experience in catering for mature students, so if you will be aged 21 or over when you start your course, consider making us your first choice of college; that way you will have the best chance of coming to a college that is particularly welcoming to mature students and where you will be mixing with other students who have a wide range of life experience beyond school.
